About this conversion
Use this when an image exceeds an upload or email size limit. Compression re-encodes each image and removes embedded metadata.
- Input: JPEG
- Output: New download
- Batch support: Yes, within the combined size limit
- Processing: In this browser, without uploading file contents
How to use Compress Image
- Choose one or more files from your device or drop it into the tool above.
- Review the detected type, size, order, and available settings. Add an output name if useful.
- Choose “Convert now.” The work happens in this browser tab.
- Inspect the result details, then download the converted file.
What changes in the output
Lower quality produces smaller files with more visible artifacts. Compression re-encodes each image and removes embedded metadata.
The result panel reports output size and, for images, pixel dimensions. Open the downloaded file before deleting or sharing the original.
Find the smallest acceptable image by previewing it
Compression re-encodes JPG or WebP pixels at the selected quality. Lower settings usually reduce size but can soften texture, create blocks around edges, and add halos near text. Start with a moderate setting, inspect the preview at full size, and reduce quality gradually until the file meets the target without obvious damage.
- Inspect faces, text, gradients, and high-contrast edges.
- Compare the displayed output size after each setting change.
- Keep the original for later editing or a different export.
Compression is not the same as resizing
Quality changes encoding detail while resizing changes pixel dimensions. A very large camera image may remain too large even at low quality; reducing width can help more and avoids extreme artifacts. This tool also removes embedded metadata during re-encoding, so preserve the original if camera, copyright, date, or location fields are required.
- Use Resize Image when width and height exceed the destination requirements.
- Confirm metadata removal is acceptable.
- Open the downloaded file before relying on the reported size alone.
Limits & compatibility
- 25 MB combined input limit.
- Processing speed and available memory depend on this device.
- Damaged, encrypted, mislabeled, or unsupported codec variants may be rejected with a recovery message.
- No file contents are sent to the conversion server.

Frequently asked questions
What image quality should I choose?
There is no universal value. Start near the middle-to-high range, inspect the actual preview, and lower quality only as far as needed for the destination size limit.
Does image compression remove metadata?
Yes. The image is re-encoded, which removes embedded EXIF and similar metadata from the output copy.
Is this Compress Image tool free?
Yes. The listed conversion does not need an account or payment.
Are my files uploaded?
No. This tool reads the selected file in your browser and prepares the download there. We do not run a file-upload conversion server.
Why might the output look different?
Compression re-encodes each image and removes embedded metadata. Lower quality produces smaller files with more visible artifacts.
